Stone Improvement was hired for a marble polishing service on this shower stall in San Francisco. The marble was not properly maintained through the years and became dull and etched. Natural stone in shower stalls can be very difficult to maintain due to constant contact with water and shower products such as soap and shampoo. It is important to keep up on the cleaning and sealing to prevent the marble from etching and becoming dull. Once the marble is damaged or etched the only way to restore the marble is with the polishing process. The marble polishing process is a wet process so it does not create any dust. It does however create a slurry so we have to mask any surrounding areas. We use diamond embedded pads on a hand grinder to polish walls. We start off with the lowest grit level to remove the etch marks or stains. Each grit level we move up will make the marble shinier. Once we got to the clients desired sheen we let the marble completley dry before applying a penetrating sealer to the marble. After the marble polishing service the shower stall looked brand new!
